December 2, 2011 CLE Luncheon - Bankruptcy Tips For The Non-Bankruptcy Lawyer

Do you have a case that has just been put on stay pending the outcome of a bankruptcy proceeding? Ever had a client ask you about the ramifications of filing bankruptcy? As the third and final of the luncheon CLE courses to be offered this year, we invite members and friends of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society to a presentation by Brent Sorenson, a local attorney in private practice who specializes in representing individuals and entities in bankruptcy proceedings. We are pleased to hear from Mr. Sorenson, who will provide us with helpful insights on the world of bankruptcy and insolvency law, designed to educate and assist lawyers who do not specialize in bankruptcy, but who find themselves up against bankruptcy and insolvency concerns in their everyday practice.

CLE credit will be requested.

October 28, 2011 JRCLS Fall Event - BYU v. TCU

Cost:               $15 per person for those who would like to have dinner
 
Please join us for an evening of fun, food and football on October 28, 2011 at the offices of Dunn & Black, P.S. from 5:00pm to 8:30pm.  For the first of our events designed to introduce attorney mentors from the Spokane Chapter of the JRCLS to student members from the GU student chapter, the Friday evening football game between BYU and TCU will be showing on multiple projector and flat screen TV’s while those who attend enjoy light snacks and beverages and a social hour.  The game will be shown in two large adjacent conference rooms, with plenty of seating for all who attend.  Catered barbecue from Longhorn will be provided at 6:00pm for those who would like to stay and enjoy dinner and the rest of the game.  Spouses and significant others are welcome to attend.  The cost per person for those staying for dinner will be $15.  You are also welcome to bring your own meal if you would prefer.  There is no cost for those who wish to come and enjoy the social hour from 5:00 to 6:00pm.  Parking is available under the Lincoln Building near the corner of Lincoln and Riverside, or on the street downtown.

May 20, 2011 CLE Luncheon - Ethical Issues Involving Fee Agreements and Fee Arrangements

As the second of the luncheon CLE courses to be offered this year, we invite members and friends of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society to a presentation by Kim Pearson, who is an Assistant Professor of law at Gonzaga Law School and a graduate of the J. Reuben Clark Law School at BYU. She will provide us with helpful tips in considering and drafting fee agreements, along with other ethical considerations governing the attorney-client relationship. 

Ethics CLE credit will be requested.

A box lunch by Jimmy John's Gourmet Sandwiches will be provided along with beverages. Cost is $25 for attorneys. As the first of several luncheon CLEs to be offered this year, we invite members and friends of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society to a presentation by President Charles H. Recht, who will be accompanied by his wife, Elizabeth M. Recht, Temple Matron.  President Recht spent his career as a trial lawyer and will share his insights and experiences related to the topic.

Ethics CLE credit will be requested in advance.

October 8, 2010 Update: JRCLS Fall Picnic and Barbeque
We previously announced the Fall Picnic and Barbecue on October 8, 2010.  Shortly thereafter, the auto-RSVP system failed and is not yet repaired.  If you plan to attend, please RSVP to Wes Mortensen at W:455-8711 / wmortensen@dunnandblack.com or James Lake at W:624-4276 / jlake@wellsstjohn.com and include the number of people in your party.

We will begin at 5:00 pm with lawn games, and dinner will be served at 6:00 pm. The Chapter will provide hamburgers, hot dogs and drinks. Each family is encouraged to bring a side dish or dessert of their choice to share. Following dinner, we will show a short film on the life of President J. Reuben Clark.
 
Cost for the event will be $2.50 per person or $10 per family payable in cash or check at the picnic.
 
We hope this will be the first of many events giving members and friends of the Society an opportunity to get to know one another.
