The International Center for Law and Religion Studies at the J. Reuben Clark School of Law at Brigham Young University is dedicated to securing and maintaining the blessings of freedom of religion and belief for all people. Since January 2, 2000 the Center has engaged in research and publications in the field of law and religion, built networks of opinion leaders internationally and in the United States, and participated in law reform processes that strengthen religious freedom around the world. The center launched the Religious Freedom Annual Review in 2014 to provide information and discussion on current religious freedom issues in the United States.

He is a Fellow of the America College of Tax Counsel. He received his J.D. from the J. Reuben Clark Law School, Magna cum laude, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Brigham Young University Law Review.

Sister Ruth Lybbert Renlund will be the speaker at the J. Reuben Clark Law Society Annual Fireside on January 20, 2017. Sister Renlund practiced law in Salt Lake City for over twenty years and is the former president of the law firm Dewsnup, King, and Olsen. She has served on the board of directors for Deseret News and Workers Compensation Fund of Utah, as chair of the Judicial Conduct Commission for the State of Utah, and was the first female president of the Utah Trial Lawyers Association. She and her husband, Elder Dale G. Renlund, are the parents of one daughter, Ashley. Our chapter will view a rebroadcast of the event at 6:30 pm on January 20, 2017.

He has litigated First Amendment cases on behalf of clients. He has particular expertise in domestic and international religious liberty issues and has published articles and presented at international conferences on these topics. Brother Richards will provide an update on current issues in religious liberty and will also discuss practical ways that we can be involved in promoting religous liberty.

The BYU Education Week Continuing Legal Education Program will be held in Provo, Utah, on August 19 – 22, 2014. This year's program will include presentations on religious liberty issues, trial practice and litigation ethics, adoption, family, and immigration law, legal issues addressed by Oliver Cowdery, and more. For less than $100.00, attorneys can earn up to 20 CLE credits over the four day program while enjoying the inspirational and information classes offered through both the CLE program and the other Education Week courses.
An overview of each of the classes offered during this year’s CLE program can be found here. The full class schedule for the entire Education Week program, including the CLE courses, will be posted online on June 20, 2014, at http://ce.byu.edu/edweek/schedule.php
In order to attend the CLE courses, you must register as a Campus Education Week participant. In addition to the Campus Education Week tuition, attorneys seeking Continuing Legal Education credit are required to pay a $35 fee for the week to be paid at the door of 214 Crabtree Building (this covers the state CLE costs). CLE credit verification has already taken place for Utah, but participants seeking credit for all other states must check with their respective state bars for verification that the CLE courses will be accepted for credit.

The Greater NYC Chapter of the JRCLS would like to invite you and any guests to a special chapter luncheon on Friday June 20, 2014 at 12:00 pm. Our special guest speaker for the luncheon will be New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman. The Attorney General will be speaking about religious freedom issues and his office's work in this area throughout New York. All members of the chapter and student chapter members and guests are invited to attend. We will hear from the Attorney General at 12:00 pm sharp, so please make every effort to arrive 10 to 15 minutes early. Following the Attorney General's remarks, lunch will be provided. As the third and final of the luncheon CLE courses to be offered this year, we invite members and friends of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society to a presentation by Brent Sorenson, a local attorney in private practice who specializes in representing individuals and entities in bankruptcy proceedings. We are pleased to hear from Mr. Sorenson, who will provide us with helpful insights on the world of bankruptcy and insolvency law, designed to educate and assist lawyers who do not specialize in bankruptcy, but who find themselves up against bankruptcy and insolvency concerns in their everyday practice.
CLE credit will be requested.

For the first of our events designed to introduce attorney mentors from the Spokane Chapter of the JRCLS to student members from the GU student chapter, the Friday evening football game between BYU and TCU will be showing on multiple projector and flat screen TV’s while those who attend enjoy light snacks and beverages and a social hour. The game will be shown in two large adjacent conference rooms, with plenty of seating for all who attend. Catered barbecue from Longhorn will be provided at 6:00pm for those who would like to stay and enjoy dinner and the rest of the game. Spouses and significant others are welcome to attend. The cost per person for those staying for dinner will be $15. You are also welcome to bring your own meal if you would prefer. As the first of several luncheon CLEs to be offered this year, we invite members and friends of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society to a presentation by President Charles H. Recht, who will be accompanied by his wife, Elizabeth M. Recht, Temple Matron. President Recht spent his career as a trial lawyer and will share his insights and experiences related to the topic.
Ethics CLE credit will be requested in advance.
A box lunch by Jimmy John's Gourmet Sandwiches will be provided along with beverages. Cost is $25 for attorneys and others, though students are welcome and may request a lunch for $10. We will begin at 5:00 pm with lawn games, and dinner will be served at 6:00 pm. The Chapter will provide hamburgers, hot dogs and drinks. Each family is encouraged to bring a side dish or dessert of their choice to share. Following dinner, we will show a short film on the life of President J. Reuben Clark.
Cost for the event will be $2.50 per person or $10 per family payable in cash or check at the picnic.
We hope this will be the first of many events giving members and friends of the Society an opportunity to get to know one another.
