J. Reuben Clark Law Society
New Mexico Albuquerque Chapter
The organizational meeting of the Albuquerque Chapter was held in the early 1990s at the office of H. Vern Payne. Over the years the chapter has enjoyed many notable speakers: - Rex E. Lee spoke in the early 1990s around the time of the chapter's inception, - BYU Law School Dean Reese Hansen spoke about Lance Wickman being called as the first Area Authority as legal counsel for the Church in California, - BYU Law School Dean Kevin Worthen spoke at the UNM Law School about Indian Gaming, - Judges Wendy E. York and William F. Lang taught about professionalism in mediation, and - Judge Daniel A. Barker spoke regarding the role of judges under the Constitution and statutory and ethical standards with particular reference to how they apply to persons of faith. The Albuquerque Chapter supports a unique committee within the J. Reuben Clark Law Society: the Lawyer Referral Committee. This committee is designed to track attorney references to be used as a resource for local ecclesiastical leaders.
