James Rasband, current Academic Vice President at Brigham Young University, Harvard Law graduate, clerk for Judge Clifford Wallace on the the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, and former Dean of the BYU Law School will be this year's speaker. Also featured on the program is the presentation of the Outstanding Lawyer and Distinguished Service Awards.

Reception to follow in the Conference Center lobby. This is a great evening to rub shoulders with Law Society members from around the globe and to get excited for the Annual Conference in February.

The International Center for Law and Religion Studies at the J. Reuben Clark School of Law at Brigham Young University is dedicated to securing and maintaining the blessings of freedom of religion and belief for all people. Since January 2, 2000 the Center has engaged in research and publications in the field of law and religion, built networks of opinion leaders internationally and in the United States, and participated in law reform processes that strengthen religious freedom around the world. The center launched the Religious Freedom Annual Review in 2014 to provide information and discussion on current religious freedom issues in the United States.​

This year's theme is Religion and the Common GoodClick here for complete information on the speakers, schedule, and registration. Registration is free for BYU faculty, staff, and full-time students. Early bird registration ($40 for two days) ends May 5th. **8 hours of Utah CLE credit is available for an additional $15.**

The Utah Central Chapter is joining other JRCLS chapters throughout the world to clean out our closets and donate new and gently used professional clothing to local men and women reentering the workforce. Men's clothing will be donated to Wasatch Mental Health and women's clothing will be provided to UVU Women's Success/Turning Point program. 

Professional clothing includes blouses, dress shirts, slacks, suits, overcoats, shoes, etc. These items will be used especially to help the men and women of these programs to dress appropriately and confidently for interviews. 

You may bring your donations to the BYU Law School: pull into the drop-off at the second floor entrance and the wardrobe box receptacle is on the other side of the admissions desk inside the entrance.

Learn the answers to the most common divorce and custody questions and be prepared to give local pro bono service

Do you want to do pro bono but worry it will take too much time? Are you concerned that your practice area doesn't easily lend itself to pro bono services? Have no fear! Susan Griffith, director of the Timpanogos Legal Center, will teach you (1) what the pro bono service opportunities are in the area, including how to participate in "unbundled" services, and (2) learn how to answer the most common questions asked by your neighbors and friends as well as how to prepare basic divorce and custody documents for those who don't have a practice in family law. 

A light lunch will be served at 11:30. Two consecutive one-hour sessions to commence at noon. (2 hours UT CLE credit pending) There is no cost, but please do sign up here

The BYU Education Week Continuing Legal Education Program will be held in Provo, Utah, on August 19 – 22, 2014.  This year's program will include presentations on religious liberty issues, trial practice and litigation ethics, adoption, family, and immigration law, legal issues addressed by Oliver Cowdery, and more.  For less than $100.00, attorneys can earn up to 20 CLE credits over the four day program while enjoying the inspirational and information classes offered through both the CLE program and the other Education Week courses.   
 An overview of each of the classes offered during this year’s CLE program can be found here. The full class schedule for the entire Education Week program, including the CLE courses, will be posted online on June 20, 2014, at http://ce.byu.edu/edweek/schedule.php
In order to attend the CLE courses, you must register as a Campus Education Week participant. In addition to the Campus Education Week tuition, attorneys seeking Continuing Legal Education credit are required to pay a $35 fee for the week to be paid at the door of 214 Crabtree Building (this covers the state CLE costs). CLE credit verification has already taken place for Utah, but participants seeking credit for all other states must check with their respective state bars for verification that the CLE courses will be accepted for credit.

The Greater NYC Chapter of the JRCLS would like to invite you and any guests to a special chapter luncheon on Friday June 20, 2014 at 12:00 pm.  Our special guest speaker for the luncheon will be New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman.  The Attorney General will be speaking about religious freedom issues and his office's work in this area throughout New York.  All members of the chapter and student chapter members and guests are invited to attend.  We will hear from the Attorney General at 12:00 pm sharp, so please make every effort to arrive 10 to 15 minutes early.  Following the Attorney General's remarks, lunch will be provided.  The luncheon will also be sponsored by the NYLDSPA.

This year's conference in the old Gold Coast is billed for the  6th & 7th of September, 2013, at Temple Square, Independent Avenue, in the heart of Accra. It's packed with speakers from the Area Presidency, JRCLS International Chair, to prominent members of the Ghanaian Bar and Bench. Special features as Tours to historic sites and a wet your feet at the famous Labadi Beach to enjoy the breathtaking view of the Sun, Sand & Sea. The conference will be rounded up with a Conference dinner with varieties of rich, mouth watering Ghanaian dishes.

With an additional fee of $40 as registration and another $40 for accommodation, members   are allowed for the first time to attend with guests, i.e. spouses, friends or associates.

Accommodation for members from Nigeria, Liberia, Sierra Leone and the Ivory Coast is free.

 Continuing Legal Education classes at Campus Education Week are sponsored by the J. Reuben Clark Law Society and are for registered Campus Education Week participants. While primarily designed for attorneys, any registered participant may attend. In addition to the Campus Education Week tuition, attorneys seeking Continuing Legal Education credit are required to pay a $35 fee for the week to be paid at the door of 214 Crabtree Building. Participants must check in with their respective state bars for verification that the classes will be accepted as CLE credit.
