June 2006 Board Report on Sacramento Chapter
J. Reuben Clark Law Society

The last two years (2005 and 2006) have been successful for our Chapter – we hope to build on that success.  The following is a brief report of the last year.  You may contact me for a more detailed report or with comments at thodson@pkh-law.com

Chapter Events.  February 2005 Satellite Broadcast with Elder Packer.  September 2005 BBQ with Elder Carmack and Professor Wilkins.  October 2005 luncheon with Professor John Welch.

February 2006 Satellite Broadcast with Elder Wickman.  June 2006 BBQ with Elder Marlin K. Jensen.

Student Chapter.  We formed a student chapter of the JRCLS in Sacramento.  AmyAnn Rupp, law student at McGeorge School of Law, is president of the student chapter.  She may be reached at a_rupp@pacific.edu  We have developed a mentoring program in which law students are matched with local attorneys for mentoring opportunities.

Pro Bono Service.  We are developing a pro bono legal program to assist local Church leaders.  Programs in Salt Lake City and Los Angeles have successfully used this model.  Please contact us if you would like to participate in this effort.

Chapter Webpage.  We have created a webpage for the Sacramento Chapter.  Please take a look:  www.jrcls.org (under “Information” click on “Law Society Chapters” and then on “CA, Sacramento”) This webpage will be regularly updated with information about Chapter events.

Membership Drive.  There are currently 122 members of our Chapter.  We believe this number can be increased substantially.  Membership forms are available at the website.  Please invite interested friends and colleagues.  It’s free to join.

Regional Meetings.  Attorneys in Placer County and Folsom/El Dorado Hills meet monthly for networking and socializing.  Please join us.

Organization Alliances.  We are forging alliances with local organizations including the LDS Business Association, United Families International of Northern California, and Thomas More Society of Sacramento.

With these programs and events, we hope to fulfill the mission of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society:

We affirm the strength brought to the law by a lawyer’s personal religious conviction.  We strive through public service and professional excellence to promote fairness and virtue founded upon the rule of law.
We invite you to assist in our efforts.

Warm Regards,

Treaver K. Hodson
