J. Reuben Clark Law Society November 2015 Newsletter

I am very excited about serving as the International Chair of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society and hope to continue all the great work being done in the Law Society. As a result of Jeremiah Morgan’s membership drive this year, 500 attorneys and students joined the Law Society and we saw incredible international growth. Read more. . .

On Wednesday, September 30, 2015 the JRCLS Women in Law Committee hosted the 7th Annual Prelaw Event at BYU Law School. This year’s theme was “Women’s Perspectives in the Law: Is Law School Right for Me?” Read more. . .

Steven J. Lund was the keynote speaker at the Thursday luncheon of the 2015 JRCLS Annual Leadership Conference at Brigham Young University. He serves as Chairman of the Board of Nu Skin Enterprises as well as the executive director of the company’s Nourish the Children initiative, which has facilitated the donation of millions of meals to malnourished children around the world. The Orange County Chapter held its Annual Dinner on September 18, 2015, at the Irvine Marriott Hotel. The keynote speaker was Sister Elaine S. Dalton, who served from 2008-2013 as the General President of the Young Women of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Read more. . .

The JRCLS International Women in Law Committee hosted its 3rd Annual WIL Regional Conference on September 19th at Chapman University Dale E. Fowler School of Law in Orange County, California. Past locations include Phoenix, Arizona (2013) and Washington D.C. (2014). Next year’s Conference is planned to take place in Orem, Utah. Read more. . .

The First Religious Freedom Symposium of Ceara State, held at City Hall of Fortaleza on 25 September, 2015, was organized by the J. Reuben Clark Law Society’s Brazil Northeast Chapter and BAR Association of Ceara, with the support of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Read more. . .

On October 16, 2015, the Los Angeles Chapter of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society held its Annual Dinner at the California Club in downtown Los Angeles and was privileged to hear from Elder D. Todd Christofferson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, who was honored with the Chapter’s Distinguished Services Award. Speaking to an audience of over 200 people, Elder Christofferson recounted the lessons he learned while serving as law clerk to the Honorable John J. Sirica of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, who handled the Watergate trials and proceedings. Read more. . .

On Tuesday, October 20, 2015, more than 1,000 guests gathered at the Grand America Hotel in Salt Lake City, Utah for the BYU Law School’s Annual Founders Day Dinner. Justice Clarence Thomas of the United States Supreme Court was introduced as the featured speaker by his recent law clerk, Robert Stander. Read more. . .

After some discussion regarding the possibility of holding the JRCLS Annual Canadian Conference every other year, the decision was made to continue forward annually. All who attended were grateful for that decision. The 4th Annual Conference was held on October 23-24, 2015 at the picturesque Banff Springs Hotel in Banff, Alberta, which is nestled in the majestic Canadian Rockies. Read more. . .

The JRCLS Media Committee is pleased to include an article interviewing Michael J. and Diane Wilkins, one of two husband-wife attorney couples serving as Associate Area Legal Counsel (AALC) worldwide.
