Approximately 50 people got together at the Gold Coast, in Queensland, Australia for the 2011 Asia Pacific Regional J Reuben Clark Law Society Conference, inclucing LDS lawyers, academics and law students from Australia, New Zealand, and the US.
Warren Gubler, an active member of the Fresno/Visalia chapter of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society (and former chapter chair), has been able to balance a thriving commercial litigation/collection law practice and service on the Visalia, California City Council for the last two years. Did you ever wonder which chapter was the first of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society? Or what the Law Society's first brochure looked like? In 2009 the Executive Committee of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society asked for volunteers to work to collect, preserve, and organize the society's history. The history committee was formed and immediately got to work on a three-fold strategy: (1) conduct oral interviews with some of the key founders of the Law Society, (2) assist chapters with their individual historical record-keeping, and (3) collect documents and photographs pertaining to the founding and on-going history of the Law Society. While our Law Society is certainly comprised of many fine Chapters, some Chapters continue to lead the way with many outstanding events and contributions. One such Chapter is our Phoenix Chapter. In this issue we will profile some of the great events the Phoenix Chapter has put on during 2010-2011, and in our next issue of the Newsletter we will specifically profile some of the activities which were particularly directed at Women in the Law and the Phoenix Student Chapter. Members of the Los Angeles Chapter gather on Saturday, June 11th, for a day of service at the local Bishop's Storehouse. The event was sponsored by the Women in the Law Committee. Over 20 chapter members, spouses, and children turned out in support. Read more. . .
This year's Leadership Conference, taking place on September 29 - 30, promises to be an invaluable experience for both current and upcoming Society leaders as a new format is implemented to maximize leaders' time and training. The conference agenda has been revised to create a more retreat-like event. Participants will spend the majority of their time at the beautiful Aspen Grove engaged in more team-building experiences than in previous years. Read more. . .
