Announcements

Dear Law Society Members,

Holiday Greetings to all.  Thanks for all of the time and energy you give in making the Law Society a vibrant organization that contributes in many ways to our lives and our profession.
I hope you will join with us as we kick off 2013—our 25th Anniversary--with the following great celebrations:

--Annual Society Broadcast on January 25, 2013.  If you are in the Utah area please join us in the Little Theatre at the Conference Center in Salt Lake City at 6 PM.  Elder Larry Echo Hawk of the First Quorum of the Seventy and former US Assistant Secretary of the Interior for Indian Affairs will be the speaker.  An anniversary celebration will follow the broadcast.  If you are outside of Salt Lake City, please contact your Chapter Chair.  If you are a chapter leader, please post your Chapter’s Fireside event by going to http://goo.gl/uZqfX  as soon as possible.

--Annual Conference and 25th Anniversary Celebration in Washington DC Feb 14-16, 2013.   Registration is now open at www.jrclsconference.com, but the price goes up in January.  Keynote speakers include Justice Thomas of the US Supreme Court and Elder Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve.  Other speakers and performers include Jenny Oaks Baker, the deans of the law schools at UVA, Georgetown, George Washington, George Mason and BYU; judges from the US Court of Appeals, Elder Wickman and area legal counsel of the LDS Church, and numerous other distinguished members of our profession.  Hundreds of attorneys and law students have already registered.  Don’t miss out on the celebration!

As we celebrate our 25th Anniversary we are asking each chapter of the Society to plan their own celebrations.  We also are asking each attorney and student chapter to have a community service and outreach program—whether it be in the area of pro bono service, promotion of religious liberty, connecting with other legal organizations in your community to do good, or something else that inspires your members.  Please consider joining with your Chapter in doing good in 2013.

As a society, “we affirm the strength brought to the law by a lawyer’s personal religious conviction.” For me, those convictions are centered on the life and mission of Jesus Christ.  I’m grateful for the freedom I have to join with many around the world in celebrating Christ’s birth and ministry at this time of year.  May we join with others in supporting that freedom for all.

Wishing everyone a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR.

Inspirational Thought

In this marvelous dispensation of the fulness of times, our opportunities to love and give of ourselves are indeed limitless, but they are also perishable. Today there are hearts to gladden, kind words to say, deeds to be done, and souls to be saved.

President Thomas S. Monson
Ensign, December 2012
