J. Reuben Clark Law Society

JRCLS Annual Fireside

On Friday, January 31, 2014, attorneys and guests gathered at the Conference Center Little Theatre in Salt Lake City, Utah for the Annual J. Reuben Clark Law Society Fireside. The evening began with the presentation of the Franklin S. Richards Public Service Award to Scott Cameron, who encouraged Society members to reflect on the service pillar of our mission statement and to make 2014 a year to be known for our fruits, not just for our good intentions.

The highlight of the evening was Elder Bruce C. Hafen's remarks. Elder Hafen shared insights correlating United States constitutional and family law judicial decisions over the past half century with the devaluing of the historic concept of marriage. He encouraged us to consider how the teachings of sacred LDS temple ceremonies have the ability to counteract this social and judicial trend and write marriage in our hearts. Elder Hafen emphasized that although building a marriage is difficult and demanding, it is also sanctifying and satisfying: through a lifetime of sacrificing for our marriage partner, we can become like Jesus Christ and realize "the abundant life of authentic joy".

Other chapters gathered around the world to watch the broadcast.  If you missed it or would like to review the presentations, you may watch this thought-provoking fireside at your convenience by clicking these links: (English, Spanish, and Portuguese)
