A Season of Giving Professional Clothing Drive

The Women in Law and Service & Outreach Committees are sponsoring a worldwide JRCLS professional clothing drive to be held during the months of October and November. Chapters are encouraged to collect professional clothing donations in these months for distribution to men and women who may be entering or re-entering the workforce. More details and ideas on ways to organize your clothing drive and also how to facilitate distribution of the donations are below. We look forward to making a significant improvement to the working wardrobes of people around the world!

Extraordinary Service Opportunity: Dilley Detention Center November 4-9, 2018

The J. Reuben Clark Law Society is teaming up with the Dilley Pro Bono Project & CARA to provide pro bono legal services to women and children currently housed in the South Texas Family Residential Facility. Space has been reserved for 15 lawyers to join in helping at the facility. Spanish speakers are preferred, but not necessary. We look forward to participating in this important and impactful service!

JRCLS Leadership Conference

The annual Leadership Conference is a one-of-a-kind Law Society event and a must-attend for Law Society leadership. Attendees will enjoy an exceptional experience that combines training, fellowship, and inspiration. The Conference will kick off at the BYU Conference Center, then head up the canyon to beautiful Aspen Grove. Register here:

Women in Law Event

The JRCLS Women in Law is excited to announce the annual Women in Law Pre-law Conference and Networking Event, held this year on Wednesday, October 3rd, 2018. The event will start at 5:30pm with law school tours for those who wish to participate, with the keynote panel will begin at 6:00pm. After the panel discussion, we will have a Practice Area Networking activity and reception beginning at 7:00pm, where students can meet with female attorneys from different areas of law practice to learn about their experiences. Education Week

BYU Education Week began in 1922 and is one of the largest continuing education programs of its type. The program is held on the beautiful Brigham Young University campus in Provo, Utah, each August and offers more than 1,000 classes on a variety of subjects, including education, religion, marriage and family, the arts, history, genealogy, communication, youth classes, and much more. The program is designed primarily for adults, although everyone age 14 and older is welcome!

Religious Freedom Annual Review

The International Center for Law and Religion Studies announces the 2018 Religious Freedom Annual Review with keynote speakers Elder L. Whitney Clayton and Michael Gerson, Washington Post columnist. Guest speakers and experts from around the country will speak on the current trend of religious liberties in the U.S. and abroad. The conference will be held June 20-21, 2018. Twelve CLE credits have been approved and approval is pending for one hour of civility/ethics CLE. To register or learn more, go to religiousfreedom.byu.edu.

JRCLS Regional Conference in Brazil

August 24-25, 2018 in Curitiba, State of Paran. As has occurred in previous years, the two day event will involve lectures on issues of law, religious freedom debates and pro bono legal service. More details coming soon.

JRCLS Annual Fireside

Thank you to everyone who attended the JRCLS Annual Fireside last Friday. It was a very successful event where we were privileged to hear inspiring and edifying remarks from James R. Rasband on his topic: In Essentials, Unity; In Non-Essentials, Liberty; And in All Things, Charity. A recording of the event is available through the church satellite system.
