Why Join the JRCLS?

The J. Reuben Clark Society is a group of attorneys, law school graduates, and law students who support our Mission Statement of religious conviction, public service, and professional excellence in the preparation for, and the practice of, the law. Members of the Law Society also subscribe to a central axiom that the rule of law serves to promote fairness and virtue in society. We invite all law students of the LDS faith, and of other faiths, who support our mission statement to become members.

Our lawyers need to be more than successful advocates. We need to bring our sacred religious convictions and standards to the practice of law. To do otherwise would bring an inconsistency to our character. There always needs to be a connection between having an involvement in the law and living the gospel.
- President James E. Faust
What will remain when a lawyer comes to the end? Each of us will have our record of service to our clients, our profession, our communities, and our God.
- Elder Dallin H. Oaks

The Law Society consists of 132 officially recognized Student Chapters, and 94 Attorney Chapters. There are over 7500 members of the Law Society, including 2717 student members. Membership provides you association with attorneys, as well as other pre-law and law students, who espouse similar views regarding the role of personal religious conviction in our chosen profession.

Membership in the Law Society is free, and continues indefinitely until terminated by the member or the Law Society. Local attorney chapters of the Law Society may charge students for attendance at certain events or activities on a voluntary basis.

The Law Society membership offers many other benefits, which we describe in more detail below.

  • Student Chapter Information: As a registered member of the Law Society, you may access information about each officially recognized student chapter on this website. Student chapter information, updated by the student presidents at individual schools, provides a description of each chapter and a calendar of events/activities at each school, lists the student members and alumni from each school, and provides their contact information for the leadership and members of each chapter.

  • Student Directory and Profiles: By registering as a member, you will have the ability to create a profile for yourself and to post your resume for other Law Society members to view. Perhaps more importantly, you will gain access to the contact information and profiles of your peers worldwide.

  • Job and Resume Bank: As a registered member, you will be able to post your resume as part of your profile, which will be available to other registered members and attorney-members of the Law Society to view in the Resume Bank.

  • Networking Opportunities: As a Member, you will have access to a network of law student advisors/mentors. Membership enhances a student's ability to interact and network with legal practitioners, public officials, judges, and scholars within the Society.

  • Events: Members receive special invitations to national conferences, regional conferences, and local events, including lunches, firesides, symposiums, service opportunities, and live and recorded webcasts.

  • The Clark Memorandum: Members will receive an electronic copy Law Society's Semi-annual magazine, The Clark Memorandum, as well as other helpful articles and other publications.

  • Course Curriculum: Members will have access to LDS Perspectives on the Law, which consists of selected essays by LDS attorneys on the practice of law. Many law schools have instigated bi-weekly/monthly courses to teach this curriculum.

  • Pro Bono Public Service: In conjunction with local attorneys, student members can participate in pro bono opportunities recommended by local ecclesiastical leaders.
