Women in the Law Resources - Advocates

The WIL Committee encourages JRCLS members to submit biographies of women in the law and of advocates for women in the law that can be posted on our website as a way of connecting JRCLS women members and of educating each other about the diverse and varied backgrounds of our members.  The WIL Committee hope that the biographies provided here of the members of the WIL Committee will encourage communications from JRCLS women members that can be shared on the WIL website and that will help the WIL Committee better serve the JRCLS women members.

Mary Hoagland

Mary Hoagland is the Assistant Dean of Career Services and External Affairs at Brigham Young University’s J. Reuben Clark Law School. After coming to BYU in 1994, Mary served on the Board of Directors of the National Association for Law Placement, as president of Women in Leadership, as chair of Utah County Women Lawyers, and as chair of BYU’s Off-campus Housing Arbitration Board.

Prior to working at BYU, Mary practiced law in Fresno, California, and served as a law clerk to two federal bankruptcy judges. Interwoven with having and raising three sons, she earned B.A. (English), M.A. (Educational Technology and Librarianship), and J.D. degrees and more recently finished a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership. She thinks it is critical for women law students and attorneys to have good role models and mentors throughout their careers and that WIL can play an important role for women in the Law Society.

Mary is the Executive Director of the BYU Law School Alumni Association and is a member of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society International Board and Executive Committee. She and her husband, Dennis, live in Provo, Utah.
